Objective: Increase mobility, reduce pain and enable a return to activities
Patient selection- ensuring that the patient belongs to the relevant strata of society.
Patient preparation- pre anaesthetic check up, and a complete physiotherapy evaluation.
This is followed by counselling by the surgeon and the therapist to ensure that the patient understands the nature of surgery and has realistic expectations of the outcomes.
TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR KNEE PROBLEMS
Medications to manage and relieve the symptoms - e.g. pain relievers. Therapies - e.g. physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture
Surgery - The final and most expensive option.
SURGERY : We provide subsidized surgeries for the rural and urban poor. The subsidies significantly reduce the costs associated with surgery allowing more people access to this option.
We specialise in surgeries involving the knee, hip and shoulder joint, specifically knee and hip joint replacements and sports injuries affecting the knee and shoulder Surgeries are conducted after an in depth consultation and diagnosis. They are performed by highly qualified and competent doctors who are either, expert knee surgeons themselves or have been trained by the best knee surgeons in the country. Many of our team members have trained under Dr Ashok Rajgopal.
POST SURGERY CARE : Care after surgery directly impacts the success of the surgery and is crucial to recovery. Post surgery care includes counseling therapy for mental and emotional well being and physiotherapy exercises. These exist to address muscle and joint weakness, create a mental shift to prepare the body from being still to mobile and strengthen muscles among other reasons. Both types of therapy are designed to encourage the use of joints and ensure the proper functioning of the operated joint as well as related joints that are likely to have weakened due to insufficient use prior to surgery. Whilst physiotherapy is always prescribed, counseling sessions depend largely on individual makeup and reason for surgery.
