August 2018 God’s Own Country- our very own Paradise on Earth, Kerala was devastated by floods. Thousands lost their lives, many hundreds lost their homes and means of livelihood. And frighteningly, some even lost the land on which their homes once stood. Tragically, a high percentage of those affected belonged to local tribes, some of whom were not even covered by the government census.
Floods, in their wake bring diseases, and malnutrition.
Our commitment to help those less fortunate drove us to Kerala- we conducted medical camps in the Wayanad District of Kerala. These camps were aimed at providing immediate medical relief to the local populace. Camps were set up in cars, people’s homes and by the roadside. People came in droves to be seen and treated. One lady, who we managed to save, had been without food or water for almost 4 weeks- she had no recollection of her name or her family.
